Contest Rules

The rules of play are simple:

  • The competition will begin on 4th Febuary 2008, and will run for twelze months.
  • Each team will start with a fantasy sum of £5,000.
  • A maximum of FIVE stocks may be held at any one time.
  • Shares must be LSE or AIM listed companies. The minimum share price at the time of purchase is 20p and the minimum market capitalisation at the time of purchase is £75m.
  • No more than 25% of the initial portfolio value (i.e., £1,250) may be kept in any one stock at any time.
  • All uninvested monies will be kept in a cash balance account. No more than 10% of the initial portfolio value (i.e., £500) may be kept as cash at any time.
  • A maximum of FIVE trades are allowed during each calendar month. (A trade is defined as the sale of one stock and/or cash for the purchase of another stock and/or cash.)
  • All shares must be held for a minimum of four days. (For example, if a team purchases Stock A on Monday and Stock A's price tanks on Tuesday, the team must wait until Friday to sell its holding.)
  • Top-ups of existing shares are allowed. A top-up counts towards the monthly trading allowance.
  • There are no trading fees. There is no interest paid on cash reserves.
  • Dividends will not be included.
  • The winning team will be awarded a cash prize of £2,000.

The rules apply at all times and each team is expected to honour them in good faith through the end of the competition. A breach of any rule will result in annulment of the trade or trades involved, and in certain cases, immediate amendment of the broken rule. All trades used to correct breaches will count towards the team's monthly trading allowance.
